What does it mean to be a vulunteer firefighter.
It means to be available at a moments notice. To be willing to leave in the middle of family events or leaving work to help a neighbor in need.
It means to pay for your own travel, training and possibly equipment to serve others.
It means to spend hours working on fundrailsing to keep the department going.
It means to be ready to respond in heat or freezing temperatures, rain, snow or ice, day or night.
And it means to do all this for no pay.
It means you are a hero.
