Geocache Description:

A special letterbox hybrid cache dedicated to a pretty cool group of geocachers!

This is a letterbox hybrid cache!  If you have a stamp, PLEASE bring it and stamp it in the logbook!  It's not required to have a stamp to find this cache.  I would just love to get to see the various images that other cachers choose as their stamps...

If you would like a genuine letterbox-style hunt, ignore your GPS after parking and follow these instructions:

Park in the small trailhead lot (N40 51.027 W072.56.236) for The Dennis Puleston Warbler Woods Preserve on Yaphank Middle Island Rd, right next to the Verizon service building.  Follow the trail in from the parking lot and over to the back right corner of the metal fence surrounding the Verizon building.  You will find a wooden split rail fence with a Suffolk County Parklands sign prohibiting the use of dirt bikes and ATV's on the left side of the wooden fence.  Standing directly next to this sign, with your back to the Verizon building, consider this your "Starting Point".  From this starting point, follow the trail straight ahead for about 300 paces.  After approximately 300 paces, you will come to a slight curve in the path with a large fallen tree and a 2-3 foot tall stump directly on your left side at the edge of the trail.  Standing next to this tree stump, turn to your right and walk approximately 40 feet uphill towards another large fallen tree.  At the base of this fallen tree, covered safely with a blanket of sticks, you will find the treasure you seek!

***

This letterbox hybrid cache is a medium snapware container, hidden in a typical fashion.  There is a logbook, a hand-carved stamp, an inkpad, and some various loot available to trade.  Please DO NOT take the stamp.  It is NOT for trade.  While there is a black inpad in the cache, I would personally highly recommend bringing stamp markers in the colors bluegreenredand black.  Please make sure to replace all the contents as found, inside their seperate baggies, to help keep this cache in top shape!  Please also make sure to re-hide it well when you are finished to help keep it from being muggled.

I hope you enjoy this treasure hunt and the special hand-carved stamp!

Happy caching!!

"Surely this still beautiful area and its wealth of natural resources deserve to be treated by all of us who live here, and also by our close neighbors in New York City, with a full measure of respect, understanding, and love."

~ An excerpt from the preface of the book "A Nature Journal: A naturalist's Year on Long Island" by Dennis Puleston
