都道府県魅力度ランキング2020最下位の栃木県ですが、ジオキャッシングではとても魅力的な県です。旧栃木県と宇都宮県が合併し栃木県が誕生した6月15日を記念して、2021年の県民の日に栃木にゆかりのあるジオキャッシャーが募りキャッシュを公開しました。

The 15th June is Tochigi Citizens’ Day. Tochigi Prefecture was established on June 15, 1873 with the merger of Tochigi Prefecture and Utsunomiya Prefecture. Celebrating this day, Geocachers loved Tochigi have published caches.

Kotohira Shrine is located in the innermost part of Kashiwagura-machi, Tochigi City, on the summit of Kuragake Mountain (400m above sea level).
Tochigi City once prospered as a town of water transportation because it is located in the middle of the Watarase River, Akiyama River, and Tomoeha River. Therefore, many people related to water transportation, such as ship owners, boatmen, and boat children, visited the shrine. At the top of the shrine, dozens of teahouses lined up on the flat land of only 240 tsubo (about 1,200 square meters), and it was called the "Shrine in the Sky" and is said to have been the largest shrine in the northern Kanto region. However, in 1945, a fire destroyed all of the shrine buildings except for Atago Shrine.
The present Kotohira Shrine is no longer the same as it was when it was prosperous due to the fire, but it is still an easy hiking course and the view from the shrine is still the same.

琴平神社は、栃木市柏倉町の最奥にあり鞍掛山(標高 400m)の山頂に鎮座しています。
栃木市は、渡良瀬川、秋山川、巴波川の中間にあることから、かつては水運の町として栄えました。そのため、船主や船頭、船子などの水運関係者が多く参拝に訪れました。頂上にはわずか 240坪の平地に茶屋が数十件立ち並び、”天空の社(やしろ)”と言われ、北関東一の神社であったと伝えられています。しかし、昭和20年（1945年）火災により愛宕神社を除く全ての社屋が消失してしまいました。
現在の琴平神社は、火災により栄えていた頃の光景はなくなってはいますが手軽なハイキングコ－スにもなり、神社から眺める景色は今も変わりません。
