Poynton is a small town in Cheshire and lies to the south of Manchester. It is a former coal mining villiage with mining taking place from the 18th Century until the collieries closed in 1935. Several former coal pits can be found nearby such as at the Anson Museum and Nelson Pit near the Macclesfield Canal.
