The recent re-opening of this historical area caught my attention each day as I inched past in the Lake Road traffic. I awaited it's opening eagerly and have placed a Multi cache to highlight the area. There is an interesting information board at the start of the walkway which explains aspects of the areas history.
Cache is not at the start coordinates but can be found by projecting 95 metres on a bearing of 274 Degrees. The cache is a micro with RITR logstrip only, please BYOP.
DOC organised the upgrade of the track with the work being paid for by Ryman Healthcare as part of its resource consent.
Ryman also provided replacement Mary Barrett Glade signs and, as also required under their resource consent, information panels detailing the history of the wider area.
The village’s location was once the site of the former Duder Brickworks, remnants of which can also be seen throughout the Glade.
