Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Cazenovia cache series, an organized effort to bring more Geocaches to the greater Cazenovia area.

When Cazenovia was founded in 1793, John Linklean had great visions of Cazenovia and Caz lake, but he wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do with the area. He could have made it into a vacationing town, with vast hotels and inns surrounding the lake, he could have made it into a place where wealthy people could have Mansions and Estates, or he could have made it into a major lumber producing town. Instead, he made it into a milling town. Using the powerful Chittenango river which started in Caz lake, many mills were placed in the area, along with other buisnesses such as blacksmiths, farms and stores. When the Erie Canal was finished, All the mills and farms would bring all their products up to the Erie Canal using a road that went along the Chittenango creek that is now known as Route 13. Caz Lake also made the town a lot of money. It had it's own ferry service and It had barges that would be sent out on the lake used for parties for the wealthy. Over time, Cazenovia became more than just a goods producing town. Cazenovia Collage was founded in 1824, and many more people began moving to Cazenovia. Now, Cazenovia lake attracts hunderds of tourists a year, and has many weddings and honeymoons held in the village. Personally, I think that Cazenovia lake does more than just provide a Beautiful sight; it helped shape the wonderful town of Cazenovia.

This cache is a Multi-stage letterbox hybrid, with a twist. The posted coordinates are bogus, and you have to follow written directions to get to the first physical stage. The first stage contains the coordinates to the final stage, which also has a container. Although there are directions to the first stage, You will still need a GPS device to navigate to the posted coordinates (which is the starting point for the directions) and to get to the second stage. Both stages are within 1.5 miles of each other and you should have a pleasent walk to both stages. Both locations have beautiful views of the lake that I have enjoyed since I was a little kid, And I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Both stages are a small, plastic container with a blue lid and should be pretty easy to find. The final stage contains the logbook in a plastic baggie and contains a stamp. Please do not remove the stamp, it is NOT for trade! Both stages are big enough for small trade items and Tbs. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me or joshtrails. Good luck, and happy caching!

Here are the directions to the first stage:

1) Start at the posted coordinates for the Letterbox.

2) Continue down the pier and around the parking lot. Once you get to the crosswalk that is at the exit of the parking lot, turn right.

3) Continue down the sidewalk on Forman Street until you get to the corner of Forman St and Ledyard Ave.

4) Continue down Ledyard Ave until you get to Gypsy bay park, and than go onto the big field to the left of the parking lot.

5) Stay close to the wooded area at the front of the field,(the side that the lake is on) but do not go down by the water yet. Once you get to the last tree on the right half of the park, stop. (There is a picture of the tree to stop at in the Gallery of the cache page)

6) Once you get to the tree, bushwack you're way down to the waterfront.

7) Once you're at the waterfront, stop and go about 20 feet to you're left. The cache is near a big rock that has the stump of a tiny tree next to it. The tree has been cut down long ago. Once you get to this spot, Your search begins.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me through the GC message center. Good luck and happy caching.
