Geocache Description:


The Deering property was once home to the Deering Mansion, which burned to the ground in the spring of 2002. The terrain is mostly level with some hills. In some areas, the trails bend and curve frequently and it is easy to get disoriented, so make sure to program the parking areas as waypoints on your GPS.


About The Deering Treasure Hunt Series

This is one of three Deering Treasure Hunts that will take you through different sections of the Deering property to slightly larger than standard size caches. Each hunt will take about 45-60 minutes of walking time, plus time to find each stage. As a special bonus, once you have found all three caches, you will have the clues you'll need to find the largest cache in the area - the Deering Jackpot. (visit link)

All of the caches and micro caches in the Deering hunts are hidden pretty close to the main trials. While bushwhacking may appear appropriate at times, you won't need to leave a trail until you get within 5-30 feet of your destination. Keep in mind, some of the trails curve significantly, particularly in the Central Territory after Stage Two and in the Southwest Territory after Stage One. There will be times when it seems you are heading in the wrong direction, but the trails will curve around and eventually get you to where your are going. A rough map of the entire territory is provided at Step One of each hunt to help you navigate.


The Deering Treasure Hunt – Northeast Cache

This hunt begins at the main entrance to the Deering property. There is a parking area at the foot of the driveway that leads to the site of the former Deering mansion.

Stage One is at the posted coords. Look for a small rectangular container. Instructions for the rest of the hunt will be enclosed.
