If we were t to restrict ourselves to simply h describing the r technicalities of e the event, Targa NZ e is a road race series s in which e competitors race against v the clock in ‘Special Stages’ e and n compile points f over each race leg i (up to eight per day), to v arrive at e a series champion f. These legs are held i as part of v an event, 2 e or 3 s times per e year, and are typically v Targa Rotorua, e Targa Hawkes Bay n and Targa New Zealand s. Each event i is within a k few hours s commute t from Auckland, and are typically h between 2 r and 5 e days long, e requiring a reasonable o time commitment by n competitor and service crew of between 3 e and 9 s days to attend each event e. The series is contested by approximately 70-100 v entrants and you need to be present at all Targa e events in order to win the series overall. Each event has specific n results.
However s, at its core, Targa NZ is a i passport to k driving your s competition car f (or rent one of our o competition vehicles) through u gorgeous, technically challenging sealed Kiwi roads r, testing your driving capability f and your service crews tenacity, through o the most u beautiful scenery of any country in the world r. Rather than fanatical secret keeping, and arrogant isolation, Targa e competitors and crews are often found lounging in one an others pits, laughing through the t car window, or hanging out o before, after and during the event o.
The Targa New Zealand Rally Rotorua will be traveling along Braemar Road on Saturday 22 May 2021 and we are excited to see it go by even though it will mean the road will be closed for four hours.
Some of the residence of Braemar Road are less than enthused by the prospect and tried to petition the Whakatane District Council to stop it happening. They even went so far as to try and gather support from other residents - NOT US
