Narodil sa v rodine železničiara a s letectvom sa dostal prvý raz do kontaktu v Žiline. V roku 1940 narukoval do armády, absolvoval poddôstojnícku školu a pilotný výcvik v Trenčíne. Slúžil vo Zvolene a r. 1943 na Kryme absolvoval preškolenie na nemecký bombardér Heinkel He-111. Po zranení a rekonvalescencii slúžil na letiskách v Žiline a Poprade, odkiaľ r. 1944 odletel do ZSSR a bol pridelený k 3. čs. bojovému leteckému pluku. Absolvoval preškolenie na vojnové lietadlo Iljušin Il-2. V rámci svojho pluku sa zapojil do tzv. Ostravskej operácie a 28. 4. 1945 okolo 18,00 h bolo jeho lietadlo zasiahnuté fašistickou paľbou. Pri piatom nálete dostal jeho stroj zásah do motora, snažil sa s horiacím lietadlom preletieť front a núdzovo pristáť na poľskom území pri mestečku Rydultowy neďaleko osady Czernica. Palubného strelca (des. Valko) se podarilo zachrániť, Gucman pri pristání zahynul. Buď si zlomil väzy pri núdzovom pristáni, alebo ho zabila elektrina vysokého napätia, do drôtov ktorích so svojím strojom vletel.
He was born into a railway driver's family and came into contact with the air force for the first time in Žilina. In 1940 he enlisted into the army, graduated from the non-commissioned officer school and pilot training in Trenčín. He served in Zvolen and in 1943 completed retraining on the German bomber Heinkel He-111 on Crimea. After injuries and convalescence, he served at the airports in Žilina and Poprad, from where he flew to the USSR and was assigned to the 3rd MS. Combat Air Regiment in 1944. He completed training for the Ilyushin Il-2 war plane. As part of his regiment, he joined the so-called Ostrava operation and on April 28, 1945 around 6 pm, his plane was hit by fascist fire. During the fifth raid, his machine was hit to the engine, he tried to fly the front with a burning plane and make an emergency landing on Polish territory near the town of Rydultowy near the village of Czernica. The deck shooter (cor. Valko) was saved, Gucman died when landing. Either he broke his ties during an emergency landing, or he was killed by high-voltage electricity wires, into which he flew with his machine.
Leopoldov už bol vtedy oslobodený a o pár dní na to skončila vojna. Gucman mal vtedy len 23 rokov a padol na prahu slobodnej vlasti. Pochovaný je neďaleko miesta havárie. V knihe Z Buzuluku do Prahy ho spomína arm. generál a neskorší prezident Ludvík Svoboda a rodák M. Piovarči krátko pred svojou smrťou na jeho počesť napísal biografickú knižku Najmladší pilot pluku (vydalo ju mesto Leopoldov r. 2012).
Leopoldov was already liberated at that time and a few days later the war ended. Gucman was only 23 years old at the time and fell on the threshold of a free homeland. He is buried near the crash site. In the book From Buzuluk to Prague, he is mentioned by the arm. General and later President Ludvík Svoboda and a native M. Piovarči wrote a biographical book The Youngest Pilot of the Regiment in his honor shortly before his death (published by the city of Leopoldov in 2012).
