Geocache Description:

Classic ammo box in the woods -- literally !

This cache is along the Bear Creek Trail, on the UPHILL side of the trail.  Please note this trail is steep; sturdy footing is recommended!

The Bear Creek Trail can be reached from the Catfish Pond area or from the Backcountry Camping area; it branches off from the Backcountry Trail after passing wilderness camp sites.

Cache is within 20' of the trail.

Cloudland Canyon State Park sits on Lookout Mountain in the NW corner of the state of Georgia, in a little town with the charming name of Rising Fawn!    With a lot of recent land expansion, there is a LOT to do here -- miles of trails, waterfalls, etc. and over 25 geocaches from easy-peasy to strenuous and remote.

There is a $5 daily entrance fee, unless you are a member of the Friends of Georgia State Parks! :)

The 2-mile Backcountry Loop Trail in Cloudland Canyon State Park meanders along a creek, through a hardwood grove and past 10 excellent backcountry camp sites.  Park at the main trailhead.  The shortest way to this cache is to go left at the first trail junction.  Trail maps are provided at no charge at the visitor center and the interpretive center.

Placed with permission of the park manager and park naturalist. Please take care to understand the basic rules of geocaching in order to help keep the game enjoyable for all who participate. Please do not move or vandalize the container. Replace the cache like or better than you found it (exactly where you found it).

Sign the log book and leave it in the cache. If you want to take any of other items in the cache, they are there for trade; be sure to leave something of equal or greater value, but don't leave any kind of food items, or anything that is highly aromatic, which could attract critters/creatures/rodents/bugs!

All trails close at sunset, so this is a daylight-only find, unless you are staying at one of the backcountry campsites along the trail!

Enjoy your visit at the park and remember to  "Leave No Trace." While visiting any Georgia State Park, please obey all park rules and remain on the marked trails as you make your way to find the geocaches!  Only park in clearly marked areas, NOT along roads!
