For those unfamiliar with some of the lore behind the name of this strangely named ‘Toad Suck Park’, here is a brief story excerpt of one of those origins:
"Well, the story is that at the time of the ferry boat, there was a tavern on the Perry County side of the river that was a local hangout for folks to go down and drink alcohol and do other things frowned upon by the local communities. Some church ladies from nearby would say, 'If you can't find so-and-so, go down to the tavern. He'll be sucking on a bottle so much he's swollen up like a toad.'"
The caretaker of this cache resembles that remark (😊) and awaits your visit. Some say he may not actually be a toad but a 4-letter amphibian cousin, although I understand that the F-word is forbidden in these parts.
He has situated himself so he can hear both the distant laughter of kids playing on one side and the faint ‘one that got away’ tales of the fisherman on the other.
This cache contains a log only, so be sure to bring a pen and note that the park closes (for non-campers) at 10pm, so plan accordingly.
This has been placed with permission of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Happy Caching!
