Giugno 1944. La V Armata dell'Esercito degli Stati Uniti ha liberato Grosseto e sta avanzando verso nord, incontrando una forte resistenza da parte dei tedeschi all'altezza di Cecina. Alle spalle del fronte operano bande partigiane che fanno riferimento alla 3.a Brigata Garibaldi. Alcuni agenti della Questura di Livorno, guidati dal Tenente Vittorio Labate, collaborano con i partigiani e sono pronti ad unirsi a loro. Alcuni delatori segnalano alle autorità tedesche il ruolo degli agenti di P.S. Pochi giorni dopo le SS intercettano gli agenti, li arrestano e li portano al comando di Villa Bastianini a Tripalle, presso Crespina. Dopo essere stati interrogati e torturati gli agenti Vittorio Labate, Nicola Bucci, Giovanni Cannata, Francesco Citro, Washington Copernico, Orlando Marinai, Umberto Petrucchi e Orlando Tomietto vengono portati a Nugola Vecchia dove vengono fucilati all'alba del 23 giugno 1944.
In occasione del trentennale della Resistenza è stato eretto un monumento per commemorare e non dimenticare i Partigiani uccisi in questo episodio.

June 1944. The 5th Army of the US Army has liberated Grosseto and is advancing northwards, meeting strong resistance from the Germans around Cecina. Behind the front there are partisan bands that refer to the 3rd Garibaldi Brigade. Some agents of the Livorno Police Headquarters, led by Lieutenant Vittorio Labate, collaborate with the partisans and are ready to join them. Some informers report to the German authorities the role of the policemen. A few days later the SS intercept the agents, arrest them and take them to the command of Villa Bastianini in Tripalle, near Crespina. After being interrogated and tortured, agents Vittorio Labate, Nicola Bucci, Giovanni Cannata, Francesco Citro, Washington Copernico, Orlando Marinai, Umberto Petrucchi and Orlando Tomietto are taken to Nugola Vecchia where they are shot at dawn on 23 June 1944.
On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Liberation, a monument was erected to commemorate and not forget the Partisans killed in this episode.
