The straight line connecting this point as the northern end point and the other southern end point is called the "Nasu base line," and it was established in 1875 by the new Meiji government (Geographical Dormitory of the Ministry of the Interior), which aimed to create a modern nation, to determine the location of each triangular point as the "Great Triangular Survey of Kanhachi-shu" and to promote map making. With the transfer of the surveying project to the General Staff of the Ministry of the Army in 1884, it was not adopted as a baseline for the national triangulation and lost its role, eventually remaining in a state of disrepair.
In 1999, the landowner donated a set of stone chambers at the southern end point, and with the cooperation of the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, excavation was carried out and the chambers were restored in 2000. Above ground, the stone chamber is made of three layers of Oya stone and a lid made of Ashino stone; below ground, the stone chamber is made of four layers of Oya stone, and the foundation concrete was poured at the bottom.
It was recognized as one of the constituent cultural properties of the Japanese Heritage related to the development of Nasunogahara in 2018, and together with the northern end point of Nasushiobara City, it is a valuable cultural property positioned as the birthplace of modern surveying in Japan, and also became the foundation for the subsequent development of the road channel in the development of Nasunogahara.
