Geocache Description:

This is the 3rd cache in a trail of 12 geocaches that follow the Dane's Steam from its source in the hamlet of Wooton to the sea at Keyhaven Marshes (via Milford on Sea and Sturt Pond). Each cache or one of the waypoints will be at or very near a crossing over the stream. You will be guided to historic buldings, great natural locations and even a large earth dam, that you might otherwise not have seen.

Each cache contains a single 'golden letter' . The full set of 12 letters is an anagram of the 3 word 'moniker' of one of the most famous and well known pre-Norman (before 1066) Kings of England and provides the solution to the location of the Mystery Reward cache in Hordle. He is buried in Winchester Cathedral and part of a Dynasty that is very relevant to the theme of the trail.

The cache is outside the grounds of St Andrew's church Tiptoe. Safe parking adjacent to the cache is possible (see waypoint info) but the Sway Road is very busy so this cache is NOT suitable for children. A brief history of this church and the parent church of All Saints , Hordle can be found at www.hordleandtiptoechurch.org.uk  The churchyard at All Saints is worth a visit. There you can see a plaque on the outside of the church wall referencing the burial of Mary Girling who was the leader of a religious sect called the Hordle (New Forest) Shakers. Going down Vaggs lane on the way to caches 4 and 5 (and you will see a property called Shakers Place and a little to the South, Hordle Grange where the sect lived for a decade or so in the 19th Century. Do look up the history online.

The B3055 is busy but there is space to park a large car well off the highway adjacent to the cache but you must approach from the East on Sway Rd to access it.

Please log find online as well as in the paper log.
