Many believed it was unlucky to have women aboard. Not only was it unlucky, but it was also against the rules. There were women pirates though. Among them was Rachel Wall, Ching Shin, Anne Bonny, and Mary Read.
Anne Carmack married James Bonny who was also a pirate. Mary Read and Anne Bonny both pretended to be men, so that they could join the crew of Captain Calico Jack. They were both captured in 1720. Mary Read died in prison. No one knows what happened to Anne Bonny.
