Geocache Description:

The Cache container is not situated at the listed co-ordinates.

Bell is a town situated in an area known as the Northern Darling Downs, 40 kms from Dalby and 80 kms from Kingaroy on the Bunya Highway. Bell's  population is approximately 500 people. We are surrounded mainly by farming - Agricultural, Cattle and Pigs being the main sources of revenue for our farmers. Of course like all farming communities in Australia we also have an array of weeds and invasive plants that thrive in our beautiful and productive soils. Tree Pear is one that you might identify as you move around so please be sure not to get prickled by brushing up against it. Others like African Box Thorn are equally spiny and need to be avoided also.

We have an interesting array of attractions and points of interest in town and the surrounding area.

An attraction nearby is the Coopers Gap Windfarm which can be seen from vantage points on a number of roads or you could take a drive to have a closer look. While this 123 Wind Turbine windfarm was being built and also now to a lesser degree the workforce has had a financial impact on our small town as we have provided accommodation, food and recreation for the workers.

In town we have:

  • Railway precinct with a display of Rail Rolling Stock where you can inspect a well kept Railway Station and associated working equipment,
  • Popey's Shed which has a wonderful display of engines that have all been preserved and looked after by the Pope family,
  • Community Centre housing Library, Blue Bells Art Gallery, Coffee Shop, Art & Craft Sales and Conference/Meeting facilities available to the public as a venue for all sorts of gatherings and functions,
  • Biblical Gardens situated beside the Catholic Church to take a stroll, perhaps sit awhile and maybe reflect on life,
  • Catholic Church Murals painted on the inside of the building which is open daylight hours for the public to view. These murals and the art work in the Biblical Garden were all painted/made  by our local artist - Meg Cullen. An extreme effort, a person to be greatly admired and appreciated.

I hope you totally enjoy your visit to our pretty township and the surroundings districts. Please drive safely!
