Cancer is a terrible disease which we lost Andrew to a week after his 40th birthday in 2019. Every year on his birthday we will place a new cache in his memory. This is the second after his passing...#42.
Andrew loved baseball and since we already have some caches in Shuttleworth Park where the Amsterdam Mohawks play, we decided to add one here in this nearby little league field. Lots of swag to start this one off with so keep the good trading going! If there is a game going on, I recommend using extreme stealth and watch for muggles.
**5/31/22: Original cache was stolen, so new cache was placed. Use caution when getting to this cache. Use bug spray, watch for snakes and/or poisonous plants and broken items laying on the ground. BYOP**
Isabel’s field was originally dedicated to Alex Isabel, Amsterdam Native & former City Recreation Commissioner as well as a scout for the Brooklyn Dodgers Baseball Team.
As time went on, the field became run-down, so Alex Isabel’s nephew, Joseph Isabel (*2020 District 8 Legislator) renovated the field. He put up a new fence, dugout, grass & an infield and re-dedicated it to his parents, Guy & Ida Isabel.
He later added lights & a scoreboard. Joe’s parents sponsored “Isabel’s Wee Men’s baseball Team” beginning in 1960. The officers of the Amsterdam youth Baseball Organization have since added a concession stand & additional baseball diamond, parking, playground area and a batting cage.
Isabel’s Park is the current home of the Amsterdam Youth baseball League serving children ages 5-12.
