Kayak the Manistee.
Launch: Burnt Cabin boat launch
Midpoint: CCC Bridge Campground and Launch. Restrooms available
Take out- 3 Mile Bend Boat Launch
All of the above waypoints are listed in the first cache, GC9C8HK. There are several launch/car pull off locations along the river if you need to make your trip shorter..
A recreation passport is needed for parking at all locations.
Per a local, float time from Burnt Cabin Launch to CCC Bridge is 1.5 hours, and from CCC Bridge to Three Mile Bend Launch is 1.5 hours. Total Float time is 3 hours, but with finding caches consider adding some time to the three hours. To hide the caches it took us 5.5 hours, so plan accordingly.
I would like to thank the hiding crew that consisted of aghudley, bgscrabble, and Grizz-Rider who made pulling coordinates and placing caches easier. They were a big help as this task would not have been as easy alone. So when you see them, give them a big thank you.
Make sure you save all caches to an offline list or put them on your GPS, as cell phone service is spotty to none along this section. Also do not trust your GPS navigation system when traveling by vehicle to the launch sites, as no two tracks are required to get to any of these launch sites. My GPS wanted me to go on several two-tracks, which would have been fun had I not been pulling a trailer. The Launch and Take out points are both on King Rd and the Midpoint is on Sunset Trail and King Rd.
Cache: The cache itself is a smaller soda bottle preform with a larger cap attached to a 50lb fish line. You should have no issue retrieving the logbook as it is attached to a ziptie to easily grab. Please do not cut or break the fish line. If you have an issue with one please try to place it back so the river does not carry it away and do a maintenance log on it. Maintenance logs are the best way to let the CO know there’s a problem, especially when they get a lot of “found it” logs.
All caches are accessible from your Kayak. A few may require long arms and good balance :).
Acronyms for hints
PMD- Pull Me Down
SMoR - Stump MIddle of River
StGooYK - Safest to get out of your kayak (Trust me, but still accessible from kayak. Someone may be watching with a camera for their entertainment.)
These caches will be removed before winter. I will plan a cache removal event in September.
