I'm a little ground squirrel. I decided that with the current low interest rates, I should get myself a new place before local home prices jump too high. This seemed like a beautiful neighborhood to me, and I won the bidding war. It's very close to my old home, which was purchased by some new folks in town. Moving was uncomplicated.
You may know that ground squirrels are native to this part of the world. We look a lot like chipmunks and many people think that's what we are.
You can tell the difference between me and chipmunks both by our size and the markings on our heads. Chipmunks are smaller and have stripes across their faces, while ground squirrels are a bit larger and have no stripes on their faces, only white circles around their eyes.
I'd like to take you on a little walk in the woods close to a place where I can find nuts, grains, berries, and other good things to eat for a healthy diet.
My secret hiding place is now by a large cedar tree near two large fir trees. The fir trees drop their cones on my front porch, or I can climb up into them to eat and watch the people going by. You may hear me chirping as you walk by.
Hopefully you will stop by and pay me a visit. You may even recognize a few things I brought with me from my old place.
