The idea for these caches came to me at the checkout line of a grocery
store. A woman was commenting what a bargain the ziplock disposable sandwich
containers were. She was right, they were a bargain, and made nice little
microcache containers.
This log-only cache (no other items please) is the fifth of five
planned east Wichita microcaches. It's going so well, and still many parks
with no cache, I might bump this series to ten. The cache containers are
tupperware-like sandwich containers. The contents of the cache are a pencil,
logbook, and stash note. It would be a good idea to bring along a pencil or
pen yourself though. Please sign the logbook but do not leave any trade items.
Also, these caches are all going in areas where kids may play nearby, so
please be careful going in and out of the cache area, and please restore any
camouflage as you found it. Enjoy these parks I grew up in and around. Most of
these hides are old haunts of mine as a kid, so bringing a kid or thinking
like one may help ;)
This wasn't a park when I was a kid, and it wasn't in Wichita either. As a
matter of fact, my father leased this ground to run cattle on. When I was
around 12 years old, there was a very crusty old cowboy named Bill who lived
here and looked after the cattle. His home was within 50 yards of the cache,
and somewhere within about 10 yards of the cache was the spot that I did my
first hunting, and bagged my first quail. I remember the place and shot like
it was yesterday. This cache was very fun for me to hide. I even kicked up a couple of white tails going to this spot at noon. Park hours are basically sunrise to sunset. Gates will be locked at sunset, so plan accordingly. Please stay on trails until you make your final approach to the cache.
