Geocache Description:

Hello!

There seems to be not that many large caches in the centre of liverpool so this is to rectify that! Its a large container which hopefully will enable people to drop off trackables if you need to in Liverpool. Its just off the beaten path on the garden festival site.

As its a large container i took the opportunity to pop in a large logbook! Optionally you can do the sketch challenge - have a crack at drawing something :) Bring your colourful pens/pencils, some are supplied along with a pencil sharpener & rubber - please don't take these away.

Please note currently the gardens are impacted by the exploratory works to build housing on the non-garden parts of the former festival garden site; access from the waterfront is diverted from the 'usual' way but the route is signposted. There is less parking available as well at the moment. You may be best served parking in St Michaels and walking through to festival gardens via priory wood - alternatively you can park at Otterspool and walk down or near the Brittanina Inn.

The site is gated and these are closed in the evening, please check for opening times. Generally it's open at least 0830-1800 Mon-Sun, but can change.

Please don't take the coloured pencils or sharpener/rubber as these are for the drawing challenge! Also make sure when you're done to use the natural camouflage to hide the cache again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A former household 'tip' located ajacent to the Mersey was transformed into the UK's first ever garden festival in 1984. The International Garden Festival was a concept deisgned to regenerate Liverpool and drive tourism following the huge industrial decline and Toxteth riots.
During a five month pageant, the Festival Gardens attracted some 3.4M visitors, with its huge mix of ornamental gardens from all over the world and the grand centrpiece, Festival Hall.
When the festival was over, a large part of the gardens were redeveloped to form residential housing. The remaining gardens were left derelict and fell into disrepair in 1997.
Redevelopment work took place in 2010 which means that the garden has once again been transformed into a beautiful space. The gardens are ideal for a picnic, bike ride or a relaxing walk through the woodland trails.
Look out in the gardens for the restored pagodas, the restored Moon Wall, lakes, waterways and waterfalls and a new pedestrianised area linking to the promenade.
