ViperLeo is my 6 year old Great-grandson who loves to explore the woods. We hiked here one day and hunted the caches in the area. When he found the first cache, I asked what he would like for his Geo-name. He responded instantly. I had no idea where this name came from, so I asked. He responded simply, that he liked it. ViperLeo actually made ALL of the finds and had such a fun day. He asked about hiding a cache. After two more hikes here, we hid this one.
Geocaching in the Allegheny National Forest will take you to some of the greatest places in nature. It is a favorite place for people to enjoy a variety of activities, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, running, walking, mountain biking… and of course Geocaching! With different seasons of the year, come different things to deal with in the forest. Be cautious and dress appropriately. Also ~sturdy hiking boots are always a good footwear choice. While I did not see any wild animals, snakes, ticks, poison ivy or excessive thorns ~ you are in the woods where awareness and caution are always good ideas.
There is a small parking area just off Rt 127 The old forest road/hiking trail is nice for hiking and bike-able for the “fat tire” variety. Other than what Mother Nature provides ~ there are no modern conveniences. Always be aware of hunting season and others using this multi-use area of the ANF! Enjoy this area… take only pictures and leave only footprints or bike tire tracks!
