I love going caching with my niece and nephew. I started taking them along with me when they were very young and have always enjoyed hiking and exploring with them. However, when they were younger, they'd each get upset if the other would find the cache first spoiling the thrill of the find. I tried having them alternate being the "leader" or "navigator" with the idea that they would be the first to spot the cache but the other would inevitibly find the cache first and "ruin" the finding experience for the navigator until one day when I had an idea. I thought that if we could come up with a code word to let the others know that we had spotted the cache, without actually revealing where it was, that that would give the other one time to find it and both could share in the fun of finding the cache.
As we arrived at a park one day to find a few caches, I presented the idea to them. I wanted the word to be a team effort, so with their agreement that it sounded like a good idea, I asked them each for a word. "Bubble gum!" said my nephew who may or may not having been chewing gum at that particular time. "Dance party!" said my niece. Although each of those are actually two words, "Bubble Gum Dance Party!" became our phrase to alert others in our group that we found a cache. We'd approach ground zero for a cache, my niece would approach a hollow tree and yell "Bubble Gum Dance Party!" and we'd all go to the tree and look closely until we found it on our own. We had a lot of fun with the silliness and even started doing variations on a theme. "Get out the bubble gum, because I'm having a dance party!" and so on.
They are both over 18 now and we don't go caching as much, but when we do, we still say the magic phrase when we first see a cache.
So, if you are caching in a group, play along and have your own Bubble Gum Dance Party if you spot the cache before the rest of your crew.
