Celebrating 20 years of continuous geocaching since my first cache find on 10/06/2001.
It's been an amazing 20 years, with over 6,000 finds, and caching has changed so much in those two decades!
My first find was "Melbourne - Kiwi Connection", down in Clyde, but that didn't last more than a year after I found it. The GPS in those days didn't have maps, and I was using a 2nd hand Magellan GPS315, with black & white display and manual coordinate input.
In those days, you generally had to drive 100km+ for one or two caches. And hide one soon after starting as you soon ran out of ones close to home to find! My first hide, two weeks later was "Scottish Hillside - Fine and Dandy", which lasted 6 years.
You don't have to of course, but maybe for this cache, turn off the map on your GPS or phone, and just use the compass view to find this cache. Park at the coordinates and follow the arrow as we used to do!
The cache is in a bit of natural bushland in the City of Maroondah, which surprisingly doesn't seem to have a current cache. The hide is very "old school" Circa 2001 - a waterproof box with some toys inside, a log book in a snaplock bag hidden in a simple spot and covered with natural camo. It even includes a pen, which used to be a must for all caches to have in them. Please ensure the lid is back on properly and it's well covered when you leave. Feel free to swap something!
You might also want to find my "Ten years and counting" geocache placed, surprisingly enough, 10 years ago...quite nearby.
