Der Name ist das Programm!
In der unmittelbaren Nähe Österreichs höchster Staumauer, des Berghotels Malta und der dazugehörigen Parkplätze befindet sich seit dem Jahre 2017 ein kleiner, aber feiner Klettersteig "Damm high". Dieser wurde zwar primär zu Übungs- und Trainingszwecken für die Bergrettung, das Bundesheer usw. errichtet, weil er aber frei zugänglich ist, stellt er auch eine weitere Touristen-Adrenalin-Attraktion am oberen Ende der Malta-Hochalmstraße dar.
Wieso hatte er bisher keinen Cache? Gute Frage, möglicherweise, weil es aufgrund von der Nähe von dem nahen Tradi an der Staumauer, den es da bereits Jahre vor dem Klettersteig gab, in der Felswand keinen Tradi geben kann. Dieser Missstand ist jetzt jedenfalls gerichtet - mittels eines kurzen Multi!
Der Klettersteig verfügt über 4 Einstiege, bietet somit mehrere verschiedene Routen an (plus eine kurze, aber deutlich schwerere am Nachbarfels). Alle erreichen jedoch Schwierigkeit maximal B/C und sind somit auch für Anfänger und Kinder gut geeignet. Dennoch: Es handelt sich hier um eine Outdoor-Aktivität an einer senkrechten Felswand, daher sind gute körperliche Verfassung, Schwindelfreiheit und Trittsicherheit, wie auch entsprechende Ausrüstung (ein komplettes Klettersteigset und ein Steinschlaghelm!) und passendes Wetter unbedingt erforderlich! Kletter nicht am nassen Fels und erst gar nicht bei drohendem Gewitter!
Es handelt sich immerhin um einen T5-Cache, hier ist jeder für sein Tun selber verantwortlich, der Cache-Owner übernimmt keinerlei Haftung für etwaige Unfälle und Schäden bei der Klettersteigbegehung!
Die Felswand ist zum Südwesten ausgerichtet, daher trocknet sie bei sonnigem Wetter schnell. Auf der anderen Seite ist es nicht ratsam, den Klettersteig bei strahlendem Sonnenschein um die Mittagszeit zu begehen. Weil diese Gegend nur über die Malta-Hochalmstraße erreichbar ist, die jeweils ca. Anfang Mai bis Ende Oktober befahrbar ist (genaue Öffnungszeiten hängen von der Witterung ab), bestimmt dies auch die Erreichbarkeit des Caches. Im Mai kann aufgrund von Altschneefeldern der Zustieg zum Klettersteig wie auch zum Cache problematisch sein.
Die Hochalmstraße ist mautpflichtig: Im Jahre 2021 kostete ein Tagesticket für Pkws 20€, für Busgruppen 6€ pro Person. Mit der Kärnten Card wie auch für Nächtigungsgäste im Berghotel kostenlos. Nun aber schon zum Cache:
Unter den Bildern unten (wie auch am Hintergrund) findest die Klettersteig-Topo mit einem markierten Bereich (blaues Oval, die gestrichene waagrechte Route unten exklusive): Hier findest alle erforderlichen Antworten! Nimm somit einen der beiden linken (unteren) Einstiege (Header-Koordinaten) und sobald die beiden Stahlseile zusammen kommen, pass auf!
- An der Stelle, wo die beiden Seile aneinander treffen, ist das eine Seilende an dem durchlaufenden mit U-förmigen Stahlstäben befestigt (s. Bild unten). Wie viele diese U-förmigen Klemmen gibt es da? =A.
- An den U-förmigen Stahlstäben kannst oben seitlich zwei Buchstaben sehen. Wandle diese wie üblich in Zahlen um (A = 1, ..., Z = 26) und nimm sie als B (den ersten) und C.
- Gleich nachdem das Stahlseil einen Knick nach rechts macht und weiter nur noch leicht steigend verläuft, kannst in seiner unmittelbaren Nähe am Felsen mehrere Klebebohrhaken sehen - die sind da als Sicherungspunkte für jene Kletterer, die lieber mit eigenem Seil unterwegs sind. Auf diesen Sicherungspunkten (bis auf einen) kannst zwischen den Anschriften "AUSTRIALPIN EN959" und "MADE IN AUSTRIA" noch einen fünfstelligen Code "DEFXG" sehen - das "X" an der vorletzten Stelle ist ein Buchstabe, die übrigen vier Zeichen sind Ziffern, nimm sie in ihrer Reihenfolge als D, E, F, G.
- Wie viele diese Sicherungspunkte (inklusive den einen mit einer anderen Anschrift) kannst hier - bis das nächste Stahlseil von rechts kommt - sehen? =H. Zähle nur die in der unmittelbaren Nähe (max. 1 Meter) von deinem Stahlseil.
Den Rest des Klettersteigs kannst schon ohne Zählen genießen. Die Finalkoordinaten kannst oben am Parkplatz oder im Hotel berechnen - der Cache befindet sich wenige Gehminuten von da entfernt. Wer den Klettersteig geschafft hat, kommt auch dorthin ;-)

The name ist the program!
Just next to the Austria's highest dam, the mountain hotel Malta and the belonging parking places, since 2017 you can find a small but nice via ferrata "Damm high". It has been built for the training of mountain rescue, army etc. primarily, but because it is freely accessible, it offers one further (adrenaline) attraction for the visitors of the upper end of the Malta-Hochalmstraße alpine road.
Originally I thought of placing a simple traditional cache on the rock, but the tradi at the dam, which had been here years before the via ferrata, is too close, thus I have created a short and simple multicache.
The via ferrata offers 4 entries, so there are 4 various routes available (plus one short, but much more difficult on the top of the next rock). All of them do not exceed the B/C difficulty, so they are eligible also for beginners and childern. However: climbing them is still an outdoor activity on a vertical rock, so you still need a good physical condition, confidence on rock, no vertigo, as well as appropriate equipment (a complete via ferrata set and a helmet!) and good weather! Do not climb on wet rock and never touch a via ferrata with the risk of a thunderstorm coming!
This is still a T5 cache, here is everyone responsible for his own handling, the cache owner cannot be made responsible for any injuries or damage suffered during the climbing!
The rock faces south-west, so it gets dry in sunshine quickly. On the other hand, it is not recommendable to climb it under the clear sky around noon. This area can be reached only on the Malta-Hochalmstraße alpine road, which is usually opened from May to October (depending on actual weather conditions), this cache cannot be found outside this period. In May the access to the via ferrata or to the cache can be complicated by snow.
For the Hochalmstraße alpine road an access fee is collected: In 2021, a day ticket was 20€ for a car or 6€ per person in a bus. With the "Kärnten Card" or while staying in the hotel here, the access is free of charge. When staying in the hotel, you can borrow climbing gear free of charge there. Link: Malta-Hochalmstraße
How to find the cache:
Among the pictures below (and on the background), you can find the via ferrata plan with a marked section (blue oval - without the x-ed traverse below): here you can find all the answers! So take one of the both left (lower) entries (on the header coordinats) and when the two steel ropes come together, look around!
- At the junction of the two ropes, the end of one of them is fixed to the other one by several U-formed steel sticks (see the picture below). How many these U-formed connectors can you see here? =A.
- On the side on the top of these U-formed connectors, you can see two letters. Convert them into numbers as usual (A = 1, ..., Z = 26), so you get B (the first letter) and C.
- After the steel rope turns right and ascends only moderately further, just next to it on the rock you can see several fixation points for climbers, who prefer climbing with their own rope. On those fixation points (except of one), you can read "AUSTRIALPIN EN959" and "MADE IN AUSTRIA". Between both the rows, there is a code of five characters "DEFXG" - "X" is a letter, the remaining four are digits. They are in the row your D, E, F, G.
- How many these fixation points can you see here? Include also the one with the different text on it and count only those next to your steel rope (up to 1m from it), until you reach the next steel rope junction. =H.
Enjoy the rest of the via ferrata without counting. You can calculate the final coordinates on the parking place or in the hotel - to the cache you need just several minutes walking from here.

Zde je název program!
V bezprostřední blízkosti nejvyšší rakouské přehradní hráze, horského hotelu Malta a k nim náležejícím parkovištím se od roku 2017 nachází malá, ale hezká ferrata "Damm high". Ačkoliv byla zřízena především pro výcvik a trénink horské služby, vojska apod., jelikož je veřejně přístupná, představuje další z řady (adrenalinových) atrakcí pro návštěvníky horního konce alpské silnice Malta-Hochalmstraße.
Původně jsem měl v úmyslu, umístit do stěny jednoduchou tradičku, ale cache u hráze, která tu byla dávno před ferratou, je příliš blízko, takže jsem se rozhodl pro krátkou multinu.
Ferrata disponuje čtyřmi nástupy a nabízí tudíž vícero rozličných cest (na vedlejší skále je navíc k dispozici jedna krátká, ale výrazně těžší). Všechny dosahují maximálně obtížnosti B/C a jsou proto vhodné i pro začátečníky a děti. Přesto: zde se jedná o venkovní sport na svislé skále, určitá fyzická zdatnost, jistý krok, odolnost vůči závratím a odpovídající vybavení (kompletní úvazky a helma proti padajícímu kamení) jsou naprostou nezbytností, stejně jako odpovídající počasí! Nelez na mokré skále a nikdy se k ferratě ani nepřibližuj při hrozící bouřce! Nechci zevšeobecňovat, ale speciálně Čechům v Alpách se tohle musí důsledně opakovat...
Jedná se o T5 cache, kde je každý za své jednání sám zodpovědný, owner cache nepřebírá jakoukoliv zodpovědnost za úrazy a škody na ferratě způsobené!
Skalní stěna je orientovaná k jihozápadu, při slunečném počasí tudíž rychle schne. Na druhou stranu nelze doporučit lezení ferraty za jasného počasí v poledních hodinách. Jelikož je tato oblast dosažitelná jen po alpské silnici "Malta-Hochalmstraße", která je otevřena většinou od května do října (podle počasí), je tímto dána i sezónní dosažitelnost ferraty a cache. V květnu může být kvůli starým sněhovým polím přístup ke stěně nebo k cache problematický.
Za vjezd na Hochalmstraße se vybírá mýtné: V roce 2021 činilo 20€ za osobní automobil (včetně obytných - nocování v autech je však podél silnice zakázané), resp. 6€ za každou osobu v autobusu. S "Kärnten Card" je vjezd zdarma, stejně jako pro hosty ubytované v horském hotelu. Ti si mimochodem v hotelu mohou lezecké vybavení bezplatně zapůjčit. Link: Malta-Hochalmstraße
Jak na cache:
V galerii dole (a taky na pozadí) najdeš plánek ferraty s označeným úsekem (modrý ovál - bez přeškrtané vodorovné cesty na jeho spodním okraji), zde najdeš vše, co pro souřadnice finálky potřebuješ! Vyraž tedy jedním z obou levých (dolních) nástupů (výchozí souřadnice) a až se obě lana spojí, zbystři!
- Na místě, kde se lana spojují, je konec jednoho k druhému připevněn ocelovými svorkami ve tvaru U (viz galerii). Kolik těchto U-svorek tu je? =A.
- Ze strany těchto U-svorek nahoře jsou dvě písmena. Převeď je jako obvykle na čísla (anglická abeceda: A = 1, ..., Z = 26). To je B (první z nich) a C.
- Poté, co ocelové lano uhne vpravo a dále stoupá jen mírně, je ve skále v blízkosti lana několik jisticích ok pro lezce, kteří preferují pohyb na vlastním laně. Na těchto okách (kromě jednoho) stojí mezi nápisy "AUSTRIALPIN EN959" a "MADE IN AUSTRIA" pětimístný kód "DEFXG" - "X" je písmeno, zbývající čtyři znaky jsou číslice, po řadě tvé D, E, F, G.
- Kolik těchto ok se zde v blízkosti ocelového lana (max. 1m od něj) nachází? Počítej i to jedno s odlišným nápisem, až k místu, kde zprava přichází další ocelové lano. =H.
Zbytek ferraty si můžeš užít bez počítání. Souřadnice finálky dopočítej na parkovišti nebo v hotelu, nachází se pár minut chůze odtud. Kdo zvládl ferratu, dojde i tam.
