Geocache Description:

“The average dog is a nicer person than the average person”

Willow was a rescue.  Mrs. Willowdog saw her at a shelter, and immediately knew that she was the one.  And now, twelve years later, she has left us too soon.  Fittingly, it was the day before ‘National Best Friend Day’.

You may have seen Willow mentioned in some of my logs, where I referred to her as the Real Willowdog.  She was my geocaching companion for the majority of my Manitoba finds.  She loved caching, as it combined two of her favourite activities: going for a truck/car ride, and going for a walk.  We’ve all heard about pets who react to certain sounds, such as the jingling of car keys, or the whirring of a can opener.  With Willow, it was the sound of coordinates being entered into my GPS.  No matter where she was in the house, she could somehow hear those little beeps, and would come running. She’d nuzzle my hand, indicating that she was eager to get going.

She was a good dog.

“Her heart was in the right place, which is why ours hurt so much now.”

The cache is on private property, with permission of the property owner.  You can park on the shoulder, and walk a few yards down the driveway to the line of Willow trees.

The container has a logbook and an album of photos of Willow at various caches.  There are many that you may recognize. The photos are numbered, and there is a legend with the cache name and owner at the front of the album.
