PUERTA DE SAN JUAN
En el siglo XV Bermeo era la villa más grande del territorio. De hecho, en 1476, Fernando el Católico le otorgó el título de “cabeza de Bizkaia”, con sus correspondientes privilegios. En aquella época la villa estaba rodeada por una muralla que tenía siete puertas;

Hoy en día sólo se conserva la de San Juan en la que todavía pueden verse los orificios y la ranura por la que se deslizaba la puerta que cerraba el arco. En la fachada del interior de la muralla, hay una hornacina con la imagen de San Juan.
El portal de San Juan es el punto de partida del camino hacia San Juan de Gaztelugatxe; de ahí su nombre. Según cuenta la leyenda, San Juan Bautista llegó a la ermita dando sólo tres pasos; el primero hasta el barrio de Arane, el segundo hasta el alto de Burgoa y el tercero hasta Gaztelugatxe.

Gaur egun San Juanekoa bakarrik gordetzen da, eta bertan arkua ixten zuen atea irristatzen zen zuloak eta zirrikitua ikus daitezke oraindik. Hormaren barnealdeko fatxadan, San Joan irudia duen nitxo bat dago.

SAN JUAN DOOR

Today only door of San Juan is preserved, in which the holes and the slot through which the door that closed the arch slid can still be seen. On the front of the interior of the wall, there is a niche with the image of Saint John.
The portal of San Juan is the starting point of the road to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe; hence its name. According to legend, Saint John the Baptist arrived at the hermitage taking only three steps; the first to the Arane neighborhood, the second to the top of Burgoa and the third to Gaztelugatxe.
