BRIDAL VEIL FALLS
The iconic Bridal Veil Falls viewed from Whaterwheel Park - Photo by Senad Rizvanovic, summitpost.com.
There are actuall quite a few waterfalls named Bridal Veil Falls in Colorado - six of them, to be exact - which is why this one has held many different names: Waterwheel Falls, I-70 Falls, etc. But it still exists to be one of the six. Some other iconic Bridal Veil Falls' in Colorado are:
- The famous one in Telluride, Colorado that has a 360 foot freefall drop, making it the tallest in the state.
- The iconic and picturesque falls at Hanging Lake, also near I-70, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
- The popular falls in Rocky Mountain National Park serviced by a 6-mile hiking trail.
There are two others besides this one in deep parts of the Colorado wilderness. But this one is probably the most well known, as it is serviced directly by Interstate 70. It's hard not to be distracted while driving past the beautiful 50 foot tall horsetail waterfall that flows directly into Clear Creek. The sight is, iconic, in a word.
You can see it anywhere from Idaho Springs, but this cache's location provides a different angle that isn't as well known. This cache series always has photos to make the find easier, so here's how to get to the area:
HOW TO FIND
Starting from the parking area, locate the Idaho Springs Trail by Clear Creek. It is a paved sidewalk.
Walk down the trail for about 50 yards. Enjoy the scenic views of Clear Creek! Bridal Veil Falls will come into view down the I-70 corridor.
The cache is located in this small group of trees, once the cliff next to the trail ends. It's a little steep here! You are looking for a hanging pill bottle on this one-- no ammo can! Sorry :(
Bridal Veil Falls slides gracefully behind I-70. This is the view you will get from the cache's location. For a closer look, head down the Charlie Tayler Water Wheel trail, if it is open. I chose this location because it is an angle less seen of the falls, and, as a bonus, it has significantly less foot traffic compared to the Water Wheel trail. Have fun!
This is one of the CO Waterfall Series caches, inspired by worldwaterfalldatabase.com and Marc Conly, author of Waterfalls of Colorado. Other caches in this series can be found here!
