On June 22, 2021, my caching buddy Dodgier34 reached his 50-year marker. As I was kicking around the idea of where to hide a birthday cache for him, another friend nudged me towards this perfect spot; the 50-mile marker on the road which curves through what has been our caching playground for the last few years. As we stand in this spot, many of our most memorable adventures lie behind us on this winding road, from our crowning 500/5000 achievement on Mt. Josephine, to Mt. Disappointment, to our snowy Red Box hike with a car full of kids. The adventures that lie ahead of us, however, exploring Islip, many more trips to our favored Mt. Waterman, and countless other unexplored trails with hidden 'treasures,' beckon. Dodgier34, I look forward to sharing many, many more caching and hiking excurions with you WELL beyond this 50-mile...er...year marker!
The area nearby defiitely shows the effects of last year's fire, but there is also signs of rebirth poking out everywhere. As I was headed back down the hill, a deer came out of some nearby trees to blink at me.
You are looking for a natural yet misplaced container within a 15-foot radius of the marker. Enjoy!
