Geocache Description:

Found nestled in the undergrowth beside the public footpath along the Crag Top walk in Knaresborough, you will find Lucy, a strange looking old rusty iron cabinet, the origin and purpose of which, many people have puzzled on their walks around the area.

Lucy Boxes also known as Service Pillars typically housed electricity distribution points and in some cases transport isolation equipment in cities with tram networks (such as found in Wolverhampton).

Every cabinet has the name of the company who manufactured them, cast onto their exterior casing, and you may be able to see the name of said company (I'm not allowed to mention the company name due to Geocaching rules on commercial advertising) at the bottom of this example. This one probably dates back to the early 1900’s as it looks similar to others found in Wolverhampton around that time.

The purpose of this Lucy Box in its location, so close to the edge of Crag Top, was probably a power distribution point for those houses existing before the Aspin Estate was built or for street lights that may have existed once along the path.

The cache is camouflaged and a screw type, so please do not remove the whole cache from its location but unscrew the container to get the log for signing. you may need to lean slightly over the fence to reach the cache. please replace as found.

This is a popular walk for locals so please be discreet when searching and signing etc.The walk can be access from Crag Lane.
