(People are dying to get in there!)
This is one of a series of caches hidden in the Tame Valley from Shepley Wood to Upper Haughton and Whittles Meadows via Jet Amber Fields. During the industrial revolution, the River Tame powered numerous mills along the river. The valley also has a rich heritage in coalmining and glass making.
Much of the area was used as landfill which was capped in the early 1980’s and converted to public open space. Largely in private ownership, this part of the valley saw little maintenance and upkeep in recent years and a voluntary group was established in February 2021 to look after the area.
For maps of the area and family activity sheets to help you enjoy the valley even more see https://fotv.org.uk/resources/
This cache can be found on the footpath leading from Shepley Wood Park into Shepley Wood, an ideal point to start exploring the valley. Small magnetic tube. You will need tweezers to remove the log.
Please note: you do NOT need to go into the cemetery to find this cache.
