🌳🌳🌳This Live Oak is the 5th largest in the state, according to the Virginia Big Tree database, a program coordinated by the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation at Virginia Tech. The oak's actual age is tough to nail down. Local researchers estimate it may be up to 300 years old.
🌳🌳The Live Oak was rescued from demolition during the widing of Portsmouth Blvd back in 2016. It is now protected from future construction plans and is available for public access to visit and enjoy.
🌳When last measured in 2010, this Live Oak more than 20 feet in circumference, stood 51 feet tall and had a crown of 93 feet. Live Oak trees generally prefer sandier soils. For this tree to be this far inland is unusual according to local researchers. It is assumed the oak was planted by someone, a long time ago.
