Geocache Description:

From the time when kids had to walk uphill both way to school. There was dozens of country schools across the county ensuring that no  kid had to walk more than 3 miles

The Yuma County School project set out to locate and mark as many of these schools as possible  Anyone wanting more information can stop into the Wray Museum

People in the area of the West Gurney Post Office petioned to form a new district  out of  the Bunker Hill district  in 1908. The new district was named West Gurney. Gurney Post Office was located on the state line. There was also an East Gurney School located in Kansas. The first school was built of sod and was later repladed with a wood building in 1913. There was no water at the school and kids had to bring their own water. The school also doubles as a church until the Armel Methodist Church was built.   The district continued until 1951 when it was consolidated with Armel
