Big Bird

Big Bird is a tall yellow bird who lives in a large nest behind 123 Sesame Street. He is a neighborhor to Oscar the Grouch and his trash can. His most treasurized possession is a teddy bear named Radar. Big Bird is prone to misunderstandings. He thinks the alphabet is one long word. He helps others understand it is alright to not know everything and he encourages children to ask questions. Big Bird also makes friends easily. Big Bird debuted on Sesame Steet in its premiere season in 1969.

Sesame Street debuted as an educational television program for preschoolers in 1969. The show uses a combination of puppets, animation and live actors in short vignettes to teach reading, counting and math, cognitive processes, classification and basic life skills. In 2019, to celebrate the 50th Anniverary of Sesame Street, the US Postal Service released a sheet of stamps featuring 16 of the most popular and endearing Sesame Street puppets. This series of caches features these lovable, well-known characters.
