Geocache Description:

Many geocachers are familiar with conservation areas abutting this pond. Essex County Greenbelt’s Bailey Reservation on one side and City of Haverhill conservation area Wheeler Woods on the other. Both have several geocaches.

For paddling enthusiasts there are now three multi-caches which are accessible by water only. You may water walk if able but kayaks and canoes work better. Motorized craft are not allowed.

Chadwick Pond is a 177 acre Great Pond.  This is a popular fishing spot containing largemouth bass and pickerel. I have caught a few of each. There are also Great Blue Heron, otters and many birds. Much of the shoreline is privately owned so do not go on land without permission. It is not necessary to go onto any private land for these caches. Access to the pond is either by long portages from Wheeler Woods, or Bailey Reservation, or easily along the road(s) adjacent to the south shore. The road is named Lilly Pond for its short distance in Boxford and Barker Street in Haverhill. These caches are all in Haverhill.

There is no formal boat launch area but there are several breaks in the brush lining the road where it’s easy enough to launch.  The road is narrow and there are only a few areas along the shoulder to pull over and park. One such spot is identified below. Be careful not to pull off the road TOO MUCH as a large portion of wetland lines the road opposite the pond and is only a few feet from the pavement.  Be careful parking and watch for passing cars.

There are often several fishermen standing on the shore—potential muggles! And there are often numerous small craft on the water fishing.
