LA PLATA FALLS
La Plata Falls narrowly squeezes 15 feet through a tight ravine and plunges into a smooth sandstone canyon.
La Plata Falls is an unofficial waterfall that can be easily seen from the La Plata Peak trail, a highly trafficked 14er route leading to the 5th tallest peak in the state. On the trail, a footbridge crosses South Fork Lake Creek, where La Plata Falls crashes in an eroded, orange canyon. The water here is orange because of mining runoff, and is so contaminated that the USFS does not reccomend filtering the water in any way to drink to avoid potential poisoning. It makes for some really pretty photos though!
