John Wayne - 6 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Team BC: Well, it’s time to take down our 140 John Wayne caches series. The reason for this is because of a rancher has been removing or destroying them. We have replaced them on many occasions, sometimes as many as 10 on a run. This man has encountered geocachers on several occasions telling them to quit this activity and get on their way. He stated that they don’t want outsiders on this road. We were contacted by a geocache family on July 25th and reported the a rancher rode up on them in a blue pickup that pulled out of a driveway near John Wayne 10 & 11 at mailbox 13261 & 13257 on Tilford Road. This time he was very aggressive and told them ‘to get the f!@k off his road’. The cache family responded that the cache was in a tree in the ditch and not on private property. He responded with a more aggressive attitude. Cachers packed up and left with fear that the confrontation would escalate.
Thus our decision to remove.
Thanks,
Team BC

Geocache Description:

The Train Robbers (1973)

Marion Robert Morrison (May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), known professionally as John Wayne and nicknamed Duke, was an American actor and filmmaker who became a popular icon through his starring roles in films made during Hollywood’s Golden Age, especially in Western and war movies.

This series of caches is dedicated to one of the most iconic cowboy movie stars. He was in 140 movies in his life starting in 1930 with ‘Big Trail’ to 1976 and his last movie ‘The Shootist’

This Series is in reverse order starting with his last movie first.

Hope you enjoy the drive in the ranching area. Most caches are fairly easy terrain and close to the road. Enjoy and be safe.
Bring Your Own Pencil

The lure of gold brings a number of people to the railroad watering-stop of Liberty, Texas. First to arrive is a trio of aging Union army veterans: Lane (John Wayne), Jesse (Ben Johnson) and Grady (Rod Taylor.) Together, with drifters Ben (Bobby Vinton), Sal (Jerry Gatlin) and Calhoun (Christopher George), they plan to accompany Mrs. Lowe (Ann-Marget), a train robber's widow, to the site where her husband had hidden a gold shipment. Lane observes that his band of adventurers will be hotly pursued by the deceased robber's gang members along with "every two-bit gunman in the territory." As the company crosses the Texas border and Rio Grande River in Mexico, just ahead of of a band of pursuers, a lone, well-dressed, cigar-smoking stranger keeps a careful eye on both groups.

There is limited parking on this Cache series, please park safely along the roadside
