Geocache Description:

This geocache is hidden on one of my favorite shipwreck dive sites.  The cache is hidden inside of the cargo hold of the ship at 108 feet deep.  You will need to be a certified scuba diver in order to complete this geocache.

-Safety Considerations-

Disclaimer:  Before attempting to find this geocache, thoroughly read the three notes below that are annotated with *** for safety considerations.

***Do not attempt to log this geocache without proper training (Advanced Open Water, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver).  In order to reach this geocache, you will be inside of the structure of the wreck at 108 feet deep.***

***Use the hints and photos before going to search for the geocache. You will have very limited No Decompression Time to find the cache and sign the log.***

***I strongly recommend conducting this dive with a diver or dive guide that is experienced with diving the Sea Tiger. There are tons around the island.  They can be found on Google or any local Oahu Facebook group.***

-About the Geocache-

The geocache is accessible by descending through a square entry and a metal grate located midship.  SEE PHOTOS in cache gallery!

In order to claim a find for this geocache, you must physically touch the cache container.  You can sign the log or send me a photo of yourself or your group with the container.  I will delete any logs that do not meet these standards.  It is not enough to go to the location, but not meet one of the two logging requirements.

The geocache is a small pelican case with a bright yellow lining.  It is attached to the inside of the ship with a line that will allow you to pull it approximately 4 feet from its hide location.  Please do not detach the line or remove the cache container from the cargo hold.  SEE PHOTOS in cache gallery!

-About the Dive Site-

The bottom of the bow of the ship sits in the sand at 122 feet deep and the bottom of the stern sits at 115 feet, while the main deck is around 90-95 feet and the top of the super structure is around 75-80 feet.
Average dive time for this dive site is about 25 minutes, but No Decompression Time will limit you to no more than 16 minutes at the depth of the geocache, so go directly to the cache when you descend.  You will also need to ensure that you leave the cache location with at least 1200 PSI of air in order to maintain enough air for your ascent, safety stop, and reserve.

This 189 foot shipwreck rests in 123 feet of water. It is the deepest recreational scuba diving shipwreck in Honolulu, Hawaii.   Divers can penetrate the Sea Tiger through the cargo holds, the engine room, inner cabins, the galley, narrow passageways, stairwells, and the bridge. Despite some minor decay inside the ship, the wreck is remarkably intact, making it a unique dive for wreck enthusiasts.

The Sea Tiger is a former Chinese trading vessel originally named Yun Fong Seong No. 303. It was confiscated in the early 1990's for carrying 90+ illegal immigrants into the state of Hawaii.

You will see a large variety of marine life on and around the ship, including:

  • Whitetip Reef Sharks
  • Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles (Honu)
  • Spotted Eagle Rays
  • Frogfish
  • Moray Eels
