Let's clean up Irondequoit Creek! While kayaking here recently after the heavy rains, I noticed a lot of debris that likely was washed in from the increase of water flow in this area. I did not have equipment with me to clean up the area sufficiently and thought it was a great opportunity to host a CITO and clean up the area via kayak, canoe or standup paddleboard. The event will be from 5pm to 7:30pm. If you would prefer to stay on land, feel free to attend and clean up the area around the boat launch. I will bring trash bags but please bring your own gloves and anything else you feel you need to pick up items with. Bring all trash collected (in bags) back to the boat launch. I will be at the launch at end of event and will take all trash collected with me to dispose of properly.
I suggest parking in the public launch area off Empire Blvd. See parkng coordinates listed. There is a boat launch on Old Browncroft Blvd. but it was very muddy last time I was there and there is limited parking at that location.
We will abide by CDC and local guidelines regarding COVID-19 precautions as they exist on the day of the event.
I do have one extra kayak, paddle and PDF If anyone would like to use it please contact me. Wearing a PDF is required for this event and you also need to have a whistle for safety purposes. Bringing sunscreen, bug spray, bottled water and a hat would be a good idea.
