Ellington Park entered into public hands in 1892, having formerly been part of the Ellington Estate. Since then it has seen many features come and go including an aviary, a pool and an ornate fountain. Today, the park retains a 110 year old bandstand (recently refurbished), a playground, and a miniature railway. In recent years a team have been working on the regeneration of the park, establishing a nature garden, installing fitness equipment, planting trees, building a cafe, and opening a bookshop in an old shipping container.
