Continuing the tradition (well, it is about a week old now) of honoring our new home Tomball by referencing Raiders' ball players with the name of Tom, we now go to Tom Keating. I also like the background image of Keating playing against the Houston Oilers.
Number: 74
Position: DT
Years: 1966-72
School: Michigan
Keating joined the Raiders after two years in Buffalo. He played in 70 games with 31 starts and recorded one fumble recovery. He was selected for two AFL All-Star games and named 1st Team All Pro once. He went on to play for Pittsburgh and Kansas City.
Raiders Coach John Madden said this about Keating:
“He was a great football player because he was strong, quick and fast. He was a bright guy and he had a lot of different interests that football players didn’t have in those days,” Madden said. “He loved to cook, he loved to study wines and he loved to ride his motorcycle in the off-season. He enjoyed life and he enjoyed a lot of different things in life. He was a great football player, but he wasn’t all about football. There was a lot more to Tom Keating than that.”
