Webcams are a fun old cache type where instead of signing a physical log you posed in front of a webcam and attached the resulting photo to your online log. New ones were debarred more than 10 years ago, and existing ones ‘grandfathered’ — only small changes to the cache page are allowed. Few remain today, and only one in Aotearoa New Zealand — GCHTKY UC IC (Canterbury).
This is a traditional cache — all you need do is visit GZ, find the cache, and sign the physical log. In addition to signing the physical log, you can optionally pose for a photo and attach it to your online log, just like the retired webcam caches! Please remember stealth for the cache retrieval and replacement part.
The camera is run by Geeks on Wheels and they’re aware of this usage.

Suggested method A for the optional picture:
- Pose at the waypoint
- Open the webcam page in your browser
- Wait for your pic to show
- Take a screenshot! On an iPhone press the power and volume up buttons simultaneously. Android depends on your phone — see https://support.google.com/android/answer/9075928?hl=en
- Attach the screenshot to your log
Suggested method B for the optional picture:
- Pose at the waypoint and take a note of the time
- Within 12 hours visit the webcam page on your desktop computer and scroll back to the time you were present
- Take a screenshot
- Attach the screenshot to your log
There’s a similar cache on the other side of the isthmus.
