Bear in the Woods Cache
Get ready for a .6 mile hike along the Techumseh Trail to find this cache, a medium sized ammo box.
You will be able to hike to within 180 feet or so of this cache along the trail
and the trail is well marked. The trailhead is called Bear Creek Trailhead.
It and parking can be found at N39 18.696 W86 21.212. The hike will take you
around Bear Lake. Not sure if the fishing is good in this lake or not, but there is a boat ramp into this small lake. Hey, when I found this lake/creek/trail, I figured 3 things
calling my name was a perfect place for this cache.
The cache is well hidden, please make sure you rehide it well too. The initial
items in this cache are a CD, a visor, a geocaching patch, a poncho, a glowstick,
a zipper pull thermometer/compass, assorted toys, a log-book and disposable
camera. Please take a picture of yourself and leave the camera. We'll develop
the pictures and post them here.
We did not initially know much about the trail, nor the chief for which it
was named after. Below, you will find a little history lesson, a speech he once
gave. Interesting philosophy he had, don't you think?
The Tecumseh is a new 40-mile trail connecting Morgan-Monroe State Forest to
Yellowwood State Forest. It is being built by Hoosier
Hikers Council. The trail is usually marked with white blazes, and the sections
we have seen are well marked. In some sections there are orange blazes and ribbons.
Some trailheads/road crossings are marked with brown signposts. The Hoosier
Hikers Council has done an amazing amount of work on the trail, and it is (for
the most part) in great shape. Be aware, this portion of the trail is NOT in
a "Safe Zone" and there may be hunters in the area.
Eventually the Tecumseh trail will be connected with the Knobstone trail (one
of Indy Diver's favorite trails) to make a 150+ mile trail from (roughly) Louisville
to Martinsville.

This portrait of Tecumseh is from B. J. Lossing's
Pictorial Field- Book of the War of 1812, and is based
on a pencil sketch made by Pierre Le Dru, a trader at Vincennes,
during the War of 1812.
Tecumseh's Speech
Live your life that the fear of death
can never enter your heart
Trouble no one about his religion...
Respect others in their views
and demand that they Respect yours...
Love your Life, Perfect your Life...
Beautify All things in your Life...
Seek to make your life long
and of service to your people...
Prepare a noble death song for the day
When you go over the great divide..
Always give a word or sign of salute when meeting
or passing a friend, or even a stranger, if in a lonely place
Show respect to all people, but grovel to no one...
When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light,
for your Life, for your Strength
Give Thanks for your Food and for the joy of Living...
If you see no reason to give thanks...
The Fault Lies in........Yourself.
