Geocache Description:

I noticed the lack of geocaches in this area and decided to help place caches here in South San Antonio.

When I see this sign, I think "why is it named 'Pointe' and not 'Point'?"; it draws my attention. It turns out, Pointe is the French version of the English word Point. To Point means to extend the index (or any) finger in the direction of something in order to show where it is or to draw attention to it. In a way, by choosing to name this center 'Pointe' and not 'Point', it sort of catches your attention. Plus, the French version of the word makes it sound fancier.

This retro-looking sign also caught my eye because it just looks cool! In fact, I believe this type of style is a mix of architecture styles Googie and Art Deco.

Googling "Googie architecture" will explain that it is a type of futurist architecture influenced by car culture, jets, the Space Age, and the Atomic Age. It originated in Southern California with the Streamline Moderne architecture of the 1930s, and was popular nationwide from roughly 1945 to the early 1970s.

Art Deco on the other hand, was a style of visual arts, architecture, and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. Art Deco influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewelry, fashion, cars, movie theatres, trains, ocean liners, and everyday objects such as radios and vacuum cleaners. It took its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) held in Paris in 1925. It combined modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. It was popular during the 1910s-1930s.

You can sort of see the resemblance of these two styles present day. If the sign's red lines and yellow dots were still lit up today, it would make for a popular night photo.

There are plenty of Pleasanton NPCs (Non-Player Characters) nearby so use stealth and step away to sign the log once found. Please replace as found. Thanks for looking for this one!
