Geocache Description:

The cache container is a fist sized clip-lock box with enough room for travel bugs and such.

There is a travel bug placed in the cache for the FTF. Now on its travels with Birdnbloke

The two locks at Belan are on the Montgomery Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal which opened between Frankton Junction (23 miles downstream) and Garthmyl (5 miles upstream) in 1797.  In 1821 the canal was extended to Newtown.  The locks raise the canal 12 feet.

The site was the location for a wharf for offloading limestone from Llanymynech for use in the lime kilns which are situated just below the canal at the end of the car park.  There is a path down to them from the picnic area.

There is a pleasant walk west from the locks along the towpath and this can be combined with footpaths above the canal to make a loop.

Please replace the cache carefully to help it defy gravity.
