Aux portes de la Bataille-de-la-Ristigouche
De votre position, vous pouvez voir se dessiner l’entrée du lieu historique national de la Bataille-de-la-Ristigouche qui a pour mission de commémorer l’histoire du dernier affrontement naval entre les Britanniques et les Français pour la possession du territoire Nord-Américain, en 1760.
Découvrez-y le voyage et le sort des cinq navires marchands et de leur escorte, la frégate Le Machault, envoyés par la France dans un dernier effort pour soutenir sa colonie après la reddition de Québec, en 1759. Laissez-vous éblouir par de nombreux objets récoltés dans la rivière Ristigouche par les archéologues subaquatiques de Parcs Canada. Vous en apprendrez davantage sur le quotidien des gens de la Nouvelle-France au 18e siècle ainsi que le rôle des Acadiens et des Mi’gmaqs dans les conflits qui ont opposé les puissances coloniales française et britannique.
En vous avançant plus loin, une terrasse vous permettra d’admirer la rivière Ristigouche, la ville de Campbellton et le mont Sugarloaf au Nouveau-Brunswick.

At the Gateway to the Battle of the Restigouche
From where you are standing, you can see the entrance to the Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site, which commemorates the last naval battle between France and Great Britain for possession of North American territory in 1760.
Immerse yourself in the journey and fate of the five merchant ships and their escort, the frigate Le Machault, sent by France as the last hope to save its colony after the surrender of Quebec in 1759. Be enchanted by the many artifacts collected from the Restigouche River by Parks Canada's underwater archaeologists. You will learn about the daily lives of the people of New France in the 18th century and the role of the Acadians and Mi'gmaq in the conflicts between the French and British colonial powers.
As you move along, you will find a terrace overlooking the Restigouche River, the city of Campbellton and Sugarloaf Mountain in New Brunswick.
