Geocache Description:

The Longford River has more than one mouth; that is, a point where it discharges into a larger body of water. In this case, the Longford discharges into our beautiful Thames. The coordinates I have given will put you down close to the Thames and probably the first indication you will have that you are close to the mouth of the Longford is the noise of gushing water.  This is the main exit of the river from the western part of the Water Gardens in Bushy Park, where it leaves Waterhouse Pond and enters into a culvert underneath Lime Avenue, then briefly reappears in the park before it travels under the road and pops out just where you are standing!  It is a bit busy here and no birds were in evidence when the cache container was placed, but the Bushy Park website says that in addition to the normal waterfowl spotted in the park along the banks of the Longford, you can occasionally spot a kingfisher. Good luck!

This is a small nano.  If you are caching with children please be very careful of both the busy A road and the fast-flowing Thames that are close by. There are some time-limited restrictions for parking on the nearby road but it would be worth parking in the park itself and having a lovely walk en route to GZ.  The cache has been placed with the kind permission of Richmond upon Thames Council.

The Longford River is an artificial distributary about 19km long. It diverts water from the River Colne at Longford, then runs through Feltham and Hampton, and distributes it to all the water features in Bushy Park and Hampton Court Park (Home Park). It has 3 main outlets into the Thames in the Hampton locality:  opposite Tagg's Island, near the Privy Gardens, and at Ravens Ait.
