Near Jelsa, on a cape called Gradina, an Augustinian church and monastery were built at the beginning of the 17th century (one of four on the island, along Hvar, Sv. Nedjelja and Sucuraj). The order was abolished in the 18th century, today there is a cemetery here.
Niko Duboković mentions that the place was already called Gradina at the time of the construction of the Augustinian monastery, which suggests that there was a ruin before that, which the people called Gradina.

Nedjelju i Sućuraj).
