This geocache is a memorial to our sweet german shorthair, Ginger! Just over a year ago, she was hit by a car and found here in front of of the Velvet Rose, a dog groomer's. The owner, Debra, found her upon arriving and promptly called us from the number on her tag and let us know she had passed. I drove for nearly 30 minutes to pick her up, crying the whole way. When I arrived, this kind business owner came out and helped me load her in the car and showed such compassion. She even gave me a hug and some tissues and words of comfort. It was one of the worst days of my life and she helped make it a little easier.
We had been on a family adventure exploring Soda Lake in Fallon and Ginger was having the time of her life running and exporing and chasing critters. However, she ventured too far and despite searching, we couldn't find her before dark and had to return home without her, planning to return the next day. She was smart enough to find the road and follow it back to the highway where she was hit in the dark.
Ginger joined our family more than 7 years prior and had been a fantastic hiking/exploring partner. She was incredibly sweet, loyal, and gentle with my kids and loved running and exploring in the desert. She had a goofy smile that made us all laugh! She is missed!!
The dog on top of the cache is meant to stay with the cache. It is remarkably close to Ginger's physique. There are a couple of small surprises inside and a log, but bring a pen.
