Geocache Description:

Cache #411.

I have lived in Beechworth for over 20 years and until very recently I have never been down this Lane on the outskirts of town. Kibell Lane is part of the new Beechworth to Yackandandah Rail Trail and most of this section is actually on the old railway line. You will see the cuttings and embankments that made this route possible. Currently, this very first link has yet to be finished (August 2021) and also the last 5 kilometres from the Wodonga - Beechworth Road intersection to Yackandandah Township. They are hard at work on that section now. Theoretically, the entire trail is supposed to be finished by the end of 2021.

I have walked and ridden Kibell Lane from Beechworth down to Star Lane and back and it is a really lovely ride. At the 5km mark the dirt road finishes and the sealed riding/walking track begins. The riding section is approximately 2.5km each way (to the last cache anyhow) but the trail provides many more kilometres of riding if you wish.

There is limited parking at the cache titled "Kibell Lane - Gateway to Magpie Creek". Parking coordinates are listed in the waypoints.

I hope you enjoy exploring this lovely area on the outskirts of Beechworth.

Along this section of track you can see where deer have rubbed the bark from the trees with their antlers.
